Closing Signs

Stacy’s finally has a sign up that it’s closing. The stacks are visibly barer. As I walked through the place the other day, I started to get really anxious, as if I lingered too long I might close too. As if whatever it has is catching.

Of course, truth be told, whatever it has is catching. Here’s a list of all the restaurants in San Francisco that have closed since January 1. And that’s just restaurants. Elephant Pharmacy abruptly shut its doors with no notice the other day. I live blocks from Elephant. I was just in there the other day. Not sure I’ll really believe it’s closed until I see it.

I went in to Elephant for deodorant and left with way more than just deodorant. I did my part. Here’s some more books I’ve bought at Stacy’s:

Best Places to Kiss in Northern California by Kate Chynoweth
Octopussy and the Living Daylights by Ian Flemming
Letters to a Young Poet by Ranier Maria Rilke
Shakespeare: The World as a Stage by Bill Bryson

I need to buy more cookbooks, and I’d like to get a nice set of the Lord of the Rings books.

In 1789, the governor of Australia granted land and some animals to James Ruse in an experiment to see how long it would take him to support himself. Within 15 months he had become self sufficient. The area is still known as Experiment Farm. This is my Experiment Farm to see how long it will take me to support myself by writing.
