So when asked if every state should follow Vermont in legalizing same sex marriage, Miss California said:
I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other, but in my country, and in my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised.
In the first sentence she is espousing the freedoms that Americans have to choose how to live their own lives, and then she says she doesn't actually want people to be able to choose how to live their own lives.
If she had left out the phrase "in my country", I would have no problem with what she said. She's entitled to believe what she wants about marriage. Just don't try to legally force everyone else to believe that.
Of course, her primary reason for her belief isn't any sound reasoning, but simply "that's how I was raised." Hmm... If you were raised to believe blacks were inferior should that be written into the state constitution too? Very little has ever come from blindly following the teachings of our forebears.
On the Today show, she went on to say "It's not about being politically correct. For me, it's about being biblically correct." Hmm... Does that mean you don't eat pork or shrimp, live separately from other people for 7 days while menstruating, and think anyone who works on the sabbath should be put to death? Because the Bible is very specific on those points and is remarkably silent on homosexuality.
From What the Bible Says - And Doesn't Say - About Homosexuality by Rev. Mel White:
* Jesus says nothing about same-sex behavior.
* The Jewish prophets are silent about homosexuality.
* Only six or seven of the Bible's one million verses refer to same-sex behavior in any way -- and none of these verses refer to homosexual orientation as it's understood today.
From the same article, here are a few thing the Bible does say:
DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21
If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately.
MARK 10:1-12
Divorce is strictly forbidden in both Testaments, as is remarriage of anyone who has been divorced.
MARK 12:18-27
If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir.
You ready to live by those rules, Miss California?
